Method two won't delete the wireless network profile completely in Windows 8.1.

For case, I had a Wi-Fi network named 'John' which I deleted using method ii considering it belonged to an former router and and then I continued to a new 'John' network resulting its name to exist marked as 'John 2' in the notification bar and the 'Network and Sharing Center'.

The solution was to delete again the network (using method 2) then dig deep in the registry, following a workaround I found on some other website, to delete some leftovers.

Why tin't Microsoft proceed information technology simple?

Hello Tzon,

Thanks for the comment, ever appreciate it if people tell me their results and experiences. I do indeed miss the old system, but it's gone and we'll have to accept it for the fourth dimension being.

I've edited the original Wiki and added a guide for removing the registry entries every bit well, if you would be so kind to take a expect and tell me if this information would take helped you lot if you had to practise it.

Thanks again,

Yuri

I'm surprised MS does not permit Windows 8.1 the ability to delete a network contour in Network and Sharing Centre like it used to in Windows 7.  Why wouldn't MS want you to remove old profiles that are not longer beingness used or causing problems?

This has go a real nuisance in our office. Nosotros every bit IT professionals utilise a different secured router and network when we piece of work on client and employee computers than they commonly access for everything else. The new issue with 8.1 is that we tin can not hands remove our network private network contour easily in a few clicks anymore. To do this more than 20 times a day is cumbersome and a lot of extra work that is truly unnecessary. Any ideas on an update to this that nosotros will get the 8.0 version of this back, information technology was uncomplicated and piece of cake.

Thank you

Practiced evening Viet,

First of all thanks for your question, this been on many people their heads. The article itself does say a trivial bit nearly this simply not very detailed:

E ven after removing your Wi-Fi trough control prompt some settings remain, you lot will find this when y'all re-add this network, it will be called Wi-Fi 2 for example, in lodge to make sure this does not happen you lot can choose to follow these steps every bit well. It'southward not required, the settings are gone, just it volition clean upwards the remains.

The explanation is quite bones actually, the Registry has been ready such a style that duplicated names are not allowed in this case, that is why Windows adds a 2 or another number behind it, just like information technology does if you lot give multiple files within the same folder the aforementioned proper name.

Thats all there really is to it, read the last step in the article on how to avoid this.

Yours sincerely

Yuri

I am virtually surprised at how hard it is to update the Security Key for an existing network. You'D call up all y'all had to do was correct-click on the network and make an advisable selection. BUT NO!! you must get through several menus and not-so-obvious selections to handle such a uncomplicated task. Why delete a network that exist only to take the choice to connect to it again.

One (of I'k sure many) examples where Win8.1 doesn't live upwards to its claim of being easier.

Holy Krap! I never noticed that I couldn't only "forget" a router in Win8.i. Microsoft needs to fire every manager possible! Absolute failure! So many problems and Microsoft never actually fixes any of these issues. These pages only offering mazes of work arounds for users. Anytime nosotros need to open the panel AND with admin rights is merely failure! So bad... I'm getting a headache.

And so, Microsoft: what if I change my wifi password every month, like I'm supposed to? Yous know, for security? Win8.i is currently banging its head with the old password.
